Emergency Procedures for ISU Campus
Staff, Students, and Faculty play a critical role during an emergency. Visitors to campus may not be familiar with campus buildings or the
procedures that should be followed to ensure both of your health and safety in the event of an emergency. Become familiar with this webpage and
these procedures. In an emergency, it could make all the difference.

Example ALERTUS Desktop Screen
ALERTUS Emergency Messaging System
When the Alertus Desktop alert system is installed on your computer, you can identify the software with an icon located in your taskbar.
The Alertus desktop system will be activated when an event occurs that causes the ALL Hazards Siren to sound. This will result in a full-screen "pop-up" on
all properly configured PC;s and MacIntosh computers connected to the ISU network, taking over the whole screen with a warning and instructions from Public
Safety. An "ALL CLEAR" message will be sent when the incident has been resolved.
Rave Alert
Indiana State University employs the RAVE Emergency Text Messaging System to send text messages to subscriber cell phones and/or e-mail addresses.
This system will be activated when:
- A Tornado Warning is issued for the immediate Terre Haute area.
- A major chemical spill occurs on or near campus.
- A major criminal event resulting in, or having potential to result in, widespread personal injury occurs on campus.
- The ISU campus will be closed due to a weather-related emergency.
- A Campus Crime Alert is issued.
- Other occasions as deemed appropriate by University officials.
An "All Clear" text message will be sent when the situation has been resolved.
Any faculty member, staff member, or ISU student can sign up for this service using his or her ISU network ID and password. More than one phone number
may be added by the user, to provide ISU emergency notifications to family members or other interested parties.

Emergency Planning for ISU Departments
Below is a brief summary of the planning that ISU Departments should do individually. Emergencies can occur at anytime and a well thought out,
coordinated response helps prevent personal injury, damage and reduces confusion. Careful planning can help departments handle crises and emergencies
and save lives.
General procedures for Emergency Planning:
Every department should print their building Emergency Response Plan and keep a copy in a convenient location where employees know where it is.
Action plan and train with your employees after reviewing your Plan. It is a good idea to hold a practice drill as often as necessary to keep employees prepared.
Know your
Building Coordinator and their contact information. This is the contact person for your building in the event of an emergency and will make the necessary decisions during emergencies.
Employees Should Know:
Where campus emergency phone numbers are posted
The location of fire alarm in your building
The location of fire extinguishers
Where to seek shelter when an alarm sounds or whether to leave building
Know your evacuation routes when an emergency occurs
Where Blue Light phones are located on campus (+ symbol on
campus map)
Supplies and Equipment:
Departments are encouraged to keep a basic emergency supply kit. The following are essentials in an accessible location.
First aid supplies and training
Flashlights/batteries
Employee rosters
Preparedness at Home:
Get a kit
Make a plan
Be informed
