Dr. Nancy Brattain Rogers is the Vice President for University Engagement and Professor of Kinesiology, Recreation, and Sport. She previously served as Associate Vice President for Community Engagement and Experiential Learning and Director of the Center for Community Engagement. Nancy joined the ISU faculty in 1995. As Vice President for University Engagement, Nancy works with external stakeholders and members of the University Community to advance the University’s goals related to community engagement and experiential learning.

Nancy earned a Bachelor of Science in Recreation and Park Administration from Western Illinois University. She earned an M.S. in Recreation and Park Administration and a PhD in Human Performance with an emphasis in Leisure Behavior from Indiana University.

Nancy has been active as a board member and volunteer in numerous community organizations including United Way of the Wabash Valley, Wabash Valley Community Foundation, Wabash River Development and Beautification, Inc., and the Terre Haute Rotary Club. Nancy’s husband, Dr. Don Rogers, is Professor and Chair of the Department of Kinesiology, Recreation, and Sport. They have two children, Laura and Jonathan.

Heather Dalton Miklozek is the Community Engagement Director. Heather assists faculty with incorporating Service-Learning in the classroom and Coordinates Alternative Spring Break. She has been at Indiana State since 2005 in a professional role through Residential Life and Student Activities and Organizations and as a student by receiving her B.S. in Recreation and Sport Management (1998) and M.S. in Student Affairs and Higher Education at Indiana State. Her husband, Frank Miklozek III, and three daughters Isabel, Adelaide and Sophia reside in Riley, IN. She enjoys fostering community relations through the Center and providing students and faculty classroom experiences that will benefit our community and the students overall classroom experience.

Jennifer Christian is the AmeriCorps Program Director for the Center for Community Engagement. Jennifer’s primary function in the Center is to oversee the AmeriCorps program at Indiana State University and the surrounding community. She assists with Alternative Breaks program and day long CCE service events. She has been at Indiana State since July of 2011 in a professional role through Residential Life, and as a student by receiving her B.S. in Communication Studies and Radio, TV, Film (2003) and M.S. in Human Resource Development at Indiana State (2005). Her husband, Kevon Christian, is the Associate Director of Campus Life here at ISU. They have two children, Ethan who is 5 years old, and Austin who is 2. Jennifer enjoys fostering community relations through the AmeriCorps program and through Alternative Breaks.

Jessica Starr is the Program Coordinator for the Center for Community Engagement. She oversees the Alternative Breaks Program, Stop and Serve, and other service opportunities for students. She has been at Indiana State since 2012 in a professional role. Jessica received her B.S. in Business Management (2004) and M.S. is Human Resource Development (2007) at Indiana State. Jessica enjoys attending Sycamore athletic events with her husband Jason and being active in the community.

Kathryn Elson

Kathryn Elson began working at ISU in 1996. She coordinates information technology activities and provides IT support for all departments in the Division of University Engagement.  Kathryn has a B.S. in Business Management (1981) from EIU and a B.S. in MIS (2001) at Indiana State.  In addition, she has an MBA (1999) and an M. ED. in Curriculum and Instruction (2008) at Indiana State.  She has had a range of duties during her time at ISU but the last 15 years have been in computer support.  She and her husband, two children and their families reside in Terre Haute.  In her spare time she enjoys spending time with her family, quilting, gardening and traveling.

Cat Paterson has served as a Faculty Fellow in the Center for Community Engagement since 2008. Her work focuses on Assessment of CCE programs and the Curricular Engagement Survey of Courses. Cat joined the ISU faculty in 1998 and is an Associate Professor in the Department of Applied Medicine and Rehabilitation. She currently teaches Biomedical Ethics and Medical Terminology. Cat, along with her husband Andy, enjoy cooking, entertaining, thoroughbred race horses and college football in her spare time.

A member of the Department of History faculty since 2004, Steve Stofferahn now also serves as a Faculty Fellow in the Center for Community Engagement. Having received several Focus Indiana grants to integrate experiential learning and community service into his courses, Steve will be drawing upon that background as he develops ISU’s new Service-Learning Scholars program. He and his wife, Maggie, enjoy the challenge of keeping up with their three young children, two cats, and a very hairy dog.

Margy Frazier is a graduate assistant for Programming and AmeriCorps in the Center for Community Engagement. She is currently pursuing her M.S. in Student Affairs and Higher Education, anticipated to graduate in May of 2016. Margy graduated from Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College with a B.S. in Equine Business Management in August of 2014.

Rashad Crawford is a graduate assistant for Programming and AmeriCorps in the Center for Community Engagement. He is currently pursuing his M.S. in Physical Education with a concentration in Sports Management, anticipated to graduate in May of 2017. Rashad graduated with a B.S. in Sports Management and a minor in Strength and Conditioning from Indiana State University in May 2015

Mandy Allen is a Graduate Assistant for Programming in the Center for Community Engagement. She is currently pursuing her M.Ed. in School Counseling and is anticipated to graduate in May of 2017. Mandy graduated with her B.S. in Human Development and Family Studies from Indiana State University in 2010. Mandy along with her husband Johnathon and their three children Kendal, Carter, and KoraLeigh enjoy traveling, playing games and spending time with family and friends.

Weiran Ma is a graduate assistant for Journal of Community Engagement and Higher Education in the Center for Community Engagement. He is currently pursuing his Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction with a concentration in Educational Technology, anticipated to graduate in May of 2019. Weiran graduated from University of Pennsylvania with a M.S.Ed in TESOL in May of 2013.
