President’s Scholars Golf Outing raises more than $101,000

September 1, 2022

The 28th annual President's Scholars Golf Outing raised $101,305 in support of President's Scholars at Indiana State University.

The outing was presented by Ratio and hosted at the Brickyard Crossing Golf Course in Indianapolis to recognize President's Scholars and their achievements.

“It was wonderful to spend a day on the links with our President's Scholars and the supporters of Indiana State University’s most prestigious academic scholarship, The President’s Scholarship," said ISU President Dr. Deborah J. Curtis. "The generosity of our donors helps make the ISU experience possible for these academically talented students, and we are extremely grateful."

The President's Scholarship is awarded to high-achieving incoming freshmen, providing full in-state tuition and premium housing. President's Scholars study within the Honors College, which provides opportunities to learn, conduct research, participate in experiential learning and professional development, and exchange ideas in a challenging and supportive academic environment.

"The President's Scholarship is one of the most important academic awards presented each year to Indiana State University students," said Dr. Greg Bierly, dean of the Honors College.

"These scholars are among our best and brightest, and we place a great deal of hope and expectation on their potential and contribution to the university. It is a privilege, and also incredibly rewarding, to have a role mentoring and teaching these students."

"I am especially grateful for the tremendous support and recognition of this program shown by the participants in the Golf Outing; their sustained support has a huge impact on the Scholars' lives and experiences," Bierly said.

Sam Bowen, a President's Scholar and Vice President of the Student Government Association, said that because of the program, he has received countless experiences outside of the classroom to make the most of his time at ISU.

"I have received industry experience through hands-on learning and through industry visits, shadowing, and internships," he said. "Getting to learn and network with our distinguished and expansive alumni network is my favorite thing about the program."

Five President's Scholars were in attendance at this year's golf outing. Each of them gained guidance, knowledge, and lasting connections from Indiana State alumni and supporters participating in the event.

"Our donors are genuine, kind-hearted people who want nothing but the best for our Sycamores. The President's Scholars Golf Outing is a great way for them to meet the next generation of graduates and help set them up for bold success," said Andrea Angel, Vice President of University Advancement and CEO of the ISU Foundation. "We are exceptionally grateful for their continued participation in this event."
