The inaugural Tri-State Golf Scramble raised $25,000 for Bridge the Gap Scholarships supporting students from the Evansville area attending Indiana State University.
Finances, not academics, are often the reason students drop out of college. Bridge the Gap scholarships support academically motivated students who are unable to register for classes the next semester due to financial constraints.
The leadership and vision for the golf event came from Evansville-area ISU alumni Laura Wittman and Travis Kendall.
"I am incredibly pleased with the support and participation of our alumni and friends from the tri-state area that made this event such a success," said Andrea Angel, Vice President of University Advancement and CEO of the ISU Foundation. "This could not have been done without the leadership of ISU alumni Laura Wittman and Travis Kendall. We look forward to continuing the success of this event next year and providing additional scholarship support to students from the tri-state area."
Said Kendall, an ISU Foundation board member and co-chair of the golf scramble: "This inaugural event was a huge success. Many thanks to all those that made this possible. It was a fun day for a great cause and I'm looking forward to helping making next year even better."
Wittman, an ISU Foundation board member and co-chair of the golf tournament, said she was honored to be a part of the project.
"Thank you to the sponsors, outing contributors, and golfers that supported our vision of creating a scholarship fund for Sycamore students in the tri-state area," she said. "Our hope is that in years to come we can grow both in participation at the event and scholarship dollars raised."
The date of the second annual Tri-State Golf Scramble will be announced soon. To find out more about Bridge the Gap Scholarships or to support ISU, visit www.indstate.edu/give.
