Crossroads Rep announces 2019 season lineup

Johnny Cash's music, the poetry of William Shakespeare and a child's imagination will take center stage at Indiana State University's Crossroads Repertory Theatre this summer.

Now in its 54th season, Crossroads Rep produces contemporary plays, classics and musicals, drawing on the talent of students, alumni and a rotating corps of returning professionals.

The 2019 season consists of:

"Ring of Fire," created by Richard Maltby Jr. and conceived by William Meade, features a set of gifted singers and instrumentalists singing through some of the greatest songs of one of America's most talented singer/songwriters, Johnny Cash. Directed by Brian Maschka, the show is set for 7:30 p.m. June 21-22, July 10 and July 13; 3 p.m. June 23 and July 13-14.

"Romeo and Juliet," written by William Shakespeare and directed by Lauren Morris, features a boy and girl who meet by chance and fall instantly in love. Their families are bitter enemies, and in order to be together, the two lovers must be prepared to risk everything. Set in a city torn apart by feuds, "Romeo and Juliet" is a dazzling combination of passion, hatred and tragedy.The shows are 7:30 p.m. June 28-29 and July 11-12 and 3 p.m. June 29-30.

By Dwayne Hartford and from the book by Kate DiCamillo, "The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane" tells the story of Edward Tulane, an expensive toy rabbit made of china that is loved by a little girl named Abilene. Tulane doesn't care because he is vain, self-centered and has no interest in anyone other than himself.

On an ocean voyage, Tulane is accidently thrown overboard and sinks to the bottom of the sea. He can neither move nor speak. As years pass by, Tulane meets different people in different situations who teach him what it is to love, what it is to lose love and how it find the courage to love again. The shows are 7:30 p.m. July 5-6 and 3 p.m. July 6-7 in New Theater.

Season tickets are available for $64, and single-production tickets are $16-20 for general admission.
