Community School of the Arts announces fall schedule

September 4, 2018

Despite the Community School of the Arts' temporary relocation, several new arts classes for children and adults are available from September through December.

New courses include an adult drawing class, Straight Up Drawing, a children's art class for children ages 5 to 15, Popping with Color that will deal with Pop Art and the Terre Haute Children's Choir has added an extension program in Sullivan.

"In January, we did a soft opening of the Children's Choir in Sullivan because we wanted to offer more children's choir and that was an area that was lacking that kind of programming," said Cynthia Phillips-Sabla, director of the Community School of the Arts. "We would like to get this program into other communities that need it and want it as a creative outlet for their children."

Children will also be able to participate in Bricks for Kids, a STEM-based program through LEGOS that will be available during Vigo County School Corp.'s Thanksgiving and spring breaks.

Each of the recipients of the Music is Key Scholarships will also receive a free guitar and one year of private lessons at Blues of the Crossroads, which sponsors the guitars.

Late last spring, the Community School of the Arts added private art lessons to its schedule and they are being offered again this fall, along with private theatre lessons. African drumming classes will also start in October.

A department of the Division of University Engagement at Indiana State University, the Community School of the Arts provides high quality performing and fine arts learning experiences to enrich the lives of the people of the Wabash Valley. While its permanent home in the Fine Arts and Commerce Building is being renovated, the Community School of the Arts has been relocated to the Nursing Building on the corner of Eighth and Chestnut streets.
