The University Speaker Series at Indiana State University will wrap up the season with award-winning science, nature and travel writer David Quammen.

Quammen of Bozeman, Mont., is the author of "The Song of the Dodo," "The Reluctant Mr. Darwin" and "Spillover," which discusses the science, history and human impacts of emerging diseases and was short-listed for eight national and international awards and won three.

The author of two recent short books, "Ebola" in 2014 and "The Chimp and the River" in 2015, Quammen will speak at 7 p.m. April 4 in Tilson Auditorium. The event is free and open to the public.

In the past 30 years, Quammen has also published a few hundred short, nonfiction pieces in the form of articles, essays and columns for Harper's, National Geographic, Outside, Esquire, The Atlantic, Powder and Rolling Stone. He occasionally writes opinion editorials for The New York Times and reviews for The New York Times Book Review and is a contributing writer for National Geographic that allows him to travel to wild and remote places.Quammen's resume isn't short on accolades either.

He has been honored with an Academy Award from the American Academy of Arts and Letters and is a three-time recipient of the National Magazine Award.
