Comic book artist Greg Land to visit Indiana State

September 9, 2015

A super hero among comic book artists, Greg Land will return to his hometown and alma mater Sept. 18-19 for a gallery exhibition and book signing.

Land, a 1985 graduate of Indiana State University and native of Terre Haute, has worked as a professional illustrator for 32 years -- and 20 of those as a comic book artist.

Currently under contract with Marvel Comics, Land's work for the company includes "The Uncanny X-Men," "Iron Man," "Mighty Avengers" and "The Ultimate Fantastic Four," along with many exclusive covers for several other titles. While working for DC Comics, Land illustrated titles such as "Night Wing" and "Birds of Prey."

Land will share his love for his profession with Indiana State art students during the day Friday and then present a gallery exhibition 4-6 p.m. at the Landini Center for the Performing and Fine Arts, 200 N. 7th St. Land will again meet fans at a book signing, set for 10 a.m.-noon Saturday at Chuck's Comics, located above Wise Pies, 9 S. 6th St.

After graduating from Indiana State with a Bachelor of Fine Arts, Land worked in the screen print industry. After 10 years of garment print designs, his dream to draw comics became a reality with a project called "Storm Quest" with Sky Comics. This opportunity led to working for DC Comics.

Shortly after, Land and his wife, Trish, and their daughter, Shelbi, moved to Florida where he began work with a new comic company called CrossGen Comics. There, Greg co-created their top-selling book called "Sojourn" with writer Ron Marz.

Through the years, Land has drawn several projects for other media including ESPN, ESPN the Magazine, the U.S. Post Office for a Marvel characters stamp project and Wizard Magazine.Land's visit is co-sponsored by the Indiana State University Alumni Association, Chuck's Comics and the Vigo County Public Library.
