"We are excited that Terrie has agreed to work with us in this critical area of our college," said Ron Green, dean of ISU's College of Business. "His background and experience will be instrumental as we continue to strengthen our ties with the financial services industry."
Troxel brings to the College of Business and the university a rare blend of academic and industry experience that has become the hallmark of ISU's renowned insurance and risk management program. He's looking forward to putting his expertise to work for ISU.
"This is a terrific opportunity for me to bring my career experience to the university's professional College of Business," said Troxel, who hopes to build on the College of Business's tradition of excellence through his work with the Gongaware Center. He said he'd also like to provide in-depth research and analysis in risk management and insurance topics for those in the industry and continue to promote what?s already been proven to be a very strong Gongaware Scholars program.
"I have been extremely impressed by the young Gongaware Scholars I've met during my visits to campus," Troxel added. "Helping to place graduates with employers where they can continue to grow professionally and make a meaningful contribution to society is the ultimate goal of the Center's work. Risk management and insurance offer many dynamic opportunities for bright, young people, and I look forward to assisting our scholars in launching successful careers."
Prior to his ISU appointment, Troxel served as president and chief executive officer of the American Institute for Chartered Property Casualty Underwriters (AICPCU) and the Insurance Institute of America (IIA) from 1998 to 2005. Both are independent, nonprofit organizations offering educational programs and professional certification to people in all segments of the property and liability insurance business.
From 1994 to 1998, Troxel served as executive director for the Insurance Research Council, Inc. (IRC), an independent, nonprofit research organization which provides timely information related to public policy matters that affect insurers, customers, and the general public.
Prior to that, from 1979 to 1994, Troxel served in various capacities with the National Association of Independent Insurers (NAII), now known as the Property Casualty Insurers Association of America. This is a trade association of more than 1,000 non-life insurance companies servicing approximately 40 percent of the United States market.
Troxel's other appointments have included serving as director of curriculum for the American Institute for Chartered Property Casualty Underwriters/Insurance Institute of America; instructor and associate professor at the University of Nevada, Reno; and assistant professor at the University of North Texas, among others.
Troxel is a member of a variety of organizations, including: American Risk and Insurance Association (past member of the ARIA Board of Directors); CPCU Society (past member of the Board of Governors); and Society of Financial Service Professionals. He also is currently trustee of the S. S. Huebner Foundation for Insurance Education at the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, and international adviser to the China Center for Insurance and Social Security Research at Peking University in Beijing. Troxel also holds several professional designations, including Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU), and Associate in Research and Planning (ARP).
A graduate of Illinois Wesleyan University, Troxel earned his master's and Ph.D. in managerial sciences and applied economics from the University of Pennsylvania. In addition, he earned a fellowship from the S. S. Huebner Foundation at the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania. He also completed the Lloyd's of London Executive Education Program through Lincoln College at Oxford University in England.
"Terrie's service will complement an already strong team in our insurance and risk management program and financial services offerings as a whole," Green said. "With him on board, we can continue to focus on meeting the needs of not only our students, but of the insurance industry at large."
