An Indiana State University professor has received a national award in recognition of his contributions to the geographic field.
Qihao Weng, professor of earth and environmental systems, received the 2015 AAG Willard and Ruby S. Miller Award from the Association of American Geographers at a ceremony on April 25.
"Dr. Weng's outstanding record of teaching and research encapsulates the award's intent to honor Association members ‘who have made truly outstanding contributions to the geographic field due to their special competence in teaching or research,'" the awards committee wrote. "As professor of geography at Indiana State University, Dr. Weng has made significant and pioneering contributions in the field of urban remote sensing. His extensive publication record includes articles in prestigious journals, book chapters and monographs. Dr. Weng is also a dedicated and accomplished teacher, graduate mentor and leader in the discipline."

The field collectively covers geospatial technology, including topics such as remote sensing, photogrammetry, Geographic Information Systems, GPS and geodesy.
