Speaker to discuss regulation in medicine, healthcare

March 13, 2015

Peter Takes, a national leader in regulatory affairs, will deliver the 2015 Dr. Mildred Lemen Distinguished Speakers Lecture March 23 at Indiana State University.

Takes, who holds a Ph.D. in immunology from Indiana State, will speak at 4 p.m. in the Nursing Building, Room 105 on "Regulatory Affairs: Significance in the Medical Industry and Healthcare Environment: Considerations, Values, and Careers."

"Dr. Takes has a successful career in pharmaceutical and biotechnology regulatory affairs and is a national leader in establishing education programs to prepare individuals for this critical field," Jack Turman Jr., dean of Indiana State's College of Nursing, Health, and Human Services, said in announcing Takes' visit.

The presentation will exemplify the goals Lemen, professor emerita of physical education, had in establishing the Speaker Series, Turman said.

In announcing an endowment for the series in 2011, Lemen said her goal was to bring in "experts who would be able to direct students toward new disciplines within the college and inform them of new technologies, guiding them in new directions in health, nutrition, physical education or any other disciplines found in our departments."

Lemen said she also hoped the speaker series would stimulate student success by exposing them to professional opportunities.

Takes is principal with Regulatory Intelligence Associates. During his extensive professional career he has held several research and management positions with Sigma Diagnostics, Sigma-Aldrich Corp. and other companies. He is also an adjunct professor at Webster University and an adjunct instructor in the clinical research management program at Washington University in St. Louis. In addition to his doctorate from Indiana State, completed in 1985, Takes holds a Bachelor of Science in ethology from Clarkson University.
