Speakers announced for December commencement

November 18, 2014

A veteran of the financial services industry and an aspiring nurse will address Indiana State University graduates during winter commencement.

Terre Haute native Todd Osburn, a founding partner of Greyrock Capital Group, will deliver the alumni address while Joy McCall of Richton Park, Ill. will serve as student commencement speaker. McCall is graduating with a bachelor's degree in nursing,

Osburn, who graduated in 1985 with an accounting degree, co-founded Greyrock in 2001. The private investment firm has offices in San Francisco, Chicago and Wilton, Conn. With assets under management in excess of $500 million, Greyrock invests in mezzanine debt and equity securities to finance buyouts, recapitalizations and internal growth needs of middle-market companies.

Prior to the formation of Greyrock, Osburn co-managed the Midwest regional office for the corporate finance division of Bank of America (formerly known as NationsCredit) and was jointly responsible for transaction origination, underwriting and portfolio management. From 1988 to 1996, he held several positions of increasing responsibility at Continental Illinois National Bank, both in the Chicago headquarters and the Atlanta Regional office. Earlier in his career, he worked in finance for Roadmaster Corp. in Olney, Ill.

Osburn serves on various boards of Greyrock's portfolio company investments and is a member of the Indiana State University Foundation and Sycamore Holding's board of directors. He is a member of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity and lives in Chicago with his wife, Caroline.

McCall is a member of Sigma Theta Tau, the international nursing honor society, and the Student Nurses Association at Indiana State. Her community service activities have included volunteering at the Light House Mission thrift store and food kitchen and Happiness Bag. She also participated in the university's Indianapolis Day of Service in 2011 and 2012.

Following graduation, she hopes to land a position at a magnet hospital, preferably in the Chicago area. Magnet hospitals have embarked on extensive reviews and systematic evaluations of their nursing practices by the American Nurses Credentialing Center. Such hospitals must meet stringent quantitative and qualitative standards that define the highest quality of nursing practice and patient care.

"After I get some clinical experience under my belt, I would like to work with critical care patients or on a cardiac specialty unit. I plan to travel across the world to help those people who lack readily available healthcare," McCall said.

She also plans to later attend graduate school to complete a master's degree in nursing education so that she "can help in building the community of new nurses."

While at Indiana State, McCall has served on the Sycamore Student Academic Mentoring team, the LEAP summer enrichment program and as LEAF community service coordinator. She has also been active with the Ebony Majestic Choir and in the Black Student Union.

Indiana State's winter commencement is scheduled for Dec. 13 in Hulman Center. The processional of graduates is scheduled to begin at 11:45 a.m. The ceremony is open to the public and tickets will not be required. The event will also be streamed live at www.indstate.edu
