The Indiana State Bar Association Leadership Development Academy Class III has teamed up with the Southwest Indiana Volunteer Lawyer Program and the Terre Haute Bar Association to sponsor "Talk to a Lawyer," a pro bono event to provide free legal consultations to the underserved in Terre Haute on Wednesday, Oct. 29.
Terre Haute residents and students can visit the following two walk-in site locations (no appointment necessary):
-- Indiana State University, Dede I, 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.
-- Vigo County Public Library, 3-6 p.m.
-- A toll-free hotline will also be available 5-7 p.m. by calling 888-526-9613.
The lawyers taking part are members of this year's Indiana State Bar Association Leadership Development Class, as well as attorney volunteers from the Terre Haute Bar Association. Indiana Supreme Court Chief Justice Loretta Rush will be kicking off the event by having breakfast with the volunteers. Justice Steven David may also be in attendance at the Indiana State location.
This past summer, five Indiana State University students researched ways to increase access to civil justice for low-income litigants.
