Indiana State University's Community School of the Arts (CSA) will host an open house from 4:30 - 6 p.m. Friday, May 16, in the Turman Art Gallery, located in the Fine Arts Building, 649 Chestnut St.

The school is funded through the Unbounded Possibilities initiative. It offers hands-on arts learning experiences for children, youth, and adults in the Wabash Valley while providing Indiana State students who are majoring in the arts opportunities for experiential learning through teaching. This summer, the CSA will offer 40 classes in art, music, and theater for all ages beginning June 7.

Located on the ISU campus, programs run through Aug. 8, and include the "Arts Sampler," a fun and exciting week filled with theater, music and art activities. Arts samplers run from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, and provide comprehensive, multi-disciplined experiences in the arts.

For preschoolers, one week, hour-long classes include "Art: Squiggles and Doodles" and "Music: Swirls and Twirls." One-week full- or half-day classes for children and teens include "The Guitar Club," "Jazz Camp,""Digital Photography and Photo Editing on Mac Computers, ""Ceramics, ""Piano Camp," "Summer Choral Experience,""Theater: The Imagination Stage "and "Sing and Dance."

New this year is a week-long college prep course in music theory and skills for students ages 12 and up.

Residential camps include "Drum Major Clinic" and "Rock Camp", running seven days and six nights in early July. Created for high-school students, these intense camps build excellence through specialized classes and private music lessons.

The CSA will also be offering classes for adults in fabric sculpture, bookmaking, landscape drawing and African drumming.

Private music lessons are available with Indiana State School of Music faculty or music students. There is a one-time per year private music lesson membership fee of $25/individual and $40/family. This fee allows members to sign up for as many lessons and classes as they wish, during the fall, spring and summer semesters. Indiana State employees are also eligible for a discount.
