Caitlyn East receives President's Medal for community service

Caitlyn East of Huntingburg has received the President's Medal for Leadership, Scholarship and Service at Indiana State University. The award goes to a junior or senior who excels in community service.

East will graduate in May with a bachelor's degree in chemistry. She has spent her past four years at Indiana State heavily involved in numerous organizations.

Serving in a number of leadership roles for her sorority, Delta Gamma, East went on to serve as vice president of standards in the Panhellenic Association. She holds membership in the Order of Omega leadership and Alpha Lambda Delta honors society. She was also active in the Student Government Association and Rhoads Hall LEAF (Leadership, Engagement, Activities, Fun) Committee.

Her involvement with the American Chemical Society student chapter, Mathematics and Mentoring for Girls, and Go Figure! at the Terre Haute Children's Museum has helped her gain experience in her field along with tutoring at the Chemistry Help Center, working as a supplemental instructor, assisting in laboratory teaching, and working as a stockroom assistant and research assistant.

East has received the Wayne S. Colvin Undergraduate Fraternal Values Award, "Positively Panhellenic" Greek Unity Award, Emma Truitt Heart of Gold Award, Junior Leadership Award, Mary P. Holmstedt Award for Outstanding Junior, Leveraging Leaders Scholarship, Susan Marie Bareford Memorial Scholarship, Dr. Earl C. Smith Chemistry Award, Donald and Mary Jo Stanley Scholarship, Summer Undergraduate Research Experience Fellowship, University Honors Scholarship and the Rural Health Scholarship. She also served as part of the executive board which received the College Panhellenic Excellence award from the National Panhellenic Conference.

She is a graduate of Southridge High School and is the daughter of Sabrina Williams and Michael Broeker. Following commencement, she intends to attend graduate school for college student affairs.
