The Indiana State University Percussion Ensemble and Steel Band will present a concert Friday, Nov. 22, at 7 p.m. in the Landini Center for Performing and Fine Arts, room 159. The Center Grove High School Ensemble and a vocal ensemble from Indiana State's African Student Association will also be featured.
Center Grove High School, located in Greenwood, is regarded as having one of the nation's most respected high school percussion programs. The percussion ensemble is one of only a handful of ensembles to perform a showcase concert at both The Midwest Clinic (2010) and Percussive Arts Society International Convention (2011). In February 2012, more than 40 Center Grove alumni, students, and staff participated in the Super Bowl XLVI Halftime Show alongside Madonna.
Singers from the African Student Association will be accompanied by both the Indiana State and Center Grove ensembles in a special arrangement of music by Nigerian drummer and singer Solo Akingbola.
The concert is free and open to the public. For additional information, contact Jimmy Finnie at jimmy.finnie@indstate.edu or 812-237-2737.
