Indiana State University and Arts Illiana are seeking entries for an "Aging in the Wabash Valley" photo competition, designed to encourage the community to think about aging in a new way.

Contestants should submit images around the theme of aging in the Wabash Valley. Winning entries will be framed for display in the Arena Building on the ISU campus and at other local venues upon request.

The contest is inspired by Dr. Jeffrey M. Levine's "Aging Across America," a photography exhibition that portrays images of adults 60 and older, which is the fastest growing segment of the population, but also the least pictured in the media. Levine's work will be on display in the Vigo County Public Library in February of 2014 and at Indiana State in the Hulman Memorial Student Union Art Gallery Lounge in March of 2014. In this exhibit, Levine explores human aging from the perspective of a medical doctor who specializes in geriatrics. Levine will be in Terre Haute in March of 2014 to give a lecture and to celebrate the announcement of the winners of the competition and reveal the framed work. Levine's award winning photographs have been shown in galleries from coast to coast. A board certified internist and geriatrician, he began taking pictures of older people during his geriatric fellowship at Mount Sinai Medical Center in the 1980's. Levine is an attending physician at Saint Vincent's Medical Center in Manhattan and lives in New York City.

Photo competition entries should be mailed to Arts Illiana (23 N. Sixth St., Terre Haute, IN 47807) care of the "Aging in the Wabash Valley" photo competition. Entries should be postmarked by Feb. 13, 2014. Winners will be announced in March. Entries must include a description of the work in 100 words or less, a ready-to-frame, high-quality print (no larger than 14" x 22"), and a completed entry form. There are separate categories for amateur and professional photographers.
