September 11, 2013

Anne Foster, associate professor of history at Indiana State University, and Nick Cullather, professor of history and international studies at Indiana University at Bloomington have been named co-editors of Diplomatic History beginning in fall 2014.

Diplomatic History features articles on all aspects of United States foreign relations and is read world-wide by more than 2,000 readers. The journal, which began publication in 1977, is published five times annually and features approximately 25 articles per year.

The journal has been published at the University of Colorado at Boulder for the past 12 years, but is moving to Bloomington where it will be housed with two other history journals, the Journal of American History and the American Historical Review.

The journal will be a collaboration between Indiana State's College of Arts and Sciences and Indiana University's history department, the School of Global and International Studies, and the College of Arts and Sciences.

Foster has worked in the history department at Indiana State since 2003 and is the author of Projections of Power: The United States and Europe in Colonial Southeast Asia, 1919-1941 (2010).

Christopher Olsen, chair of the history department at Indiana State, said Diplomatic History is a "first-tier journal with a terrific and international reputation."Foster looks forward to the collaboration between Indiana State and Indiana universities, calling it "great use of the resources of two institutions."

"Editing a journal of this high quality allows Nick Cullather and me to participate in shaping the future of the field of the history of U.S. foreign relations, which is both exciting and an honor," she said.
