Community School of the Arts Open House Aug. 23

August 8, 2013

Indiana State University's Community School of the Arts (CSA) will host an open house from 4:30 - 6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 23, in the Bare-Montgomery Art Gallery, located at Fairbanks Hall, 220 N. Seventh Street.

The open house will present an opportunity to meet the teachers, learn more about fall offerings, and register for private lessons and classes. On display in the Bare-Montgomery Gallery will be artwork created by students participating in the watercolor and oil painting adult classes.

The school is funded through the Unbounded Possibilities initiative. It provides hands-on arts learning experiences for children, youth, and adults in the Wabash Valley while providing Indiana State students who are majoring in the arts outstanding opportunities for experiential learning through teaching. This fall, the CSA will be offering 25 classes in art, music, and theater for all ages beginning the week of Aug. 26.

Music classes will be held in a variety of areas for young children through teens including Musikgarten, Terre Haute Children's Choir, beginning piano, African Drumming, and Guitar Club. Theater offerings include creative drama and FUSION dance. Visual art classes range from all things art for ages 7-11 to a pre-school program titled "Squiggles and Doodles."

The CSA will also be offering classes for adults in metal sculpture, watercolor, oil painting, drawing, ceramics, tole painting, photography, poetry, African drumming and piano.

Private music lessons are available with Indiana State School of Music faculty or music students. There is a one-time per year private music lesson membership fee of $25/individual and $40/family. This fee allows members to sign up for as many lessons and classes as they wish, during the fall, spring and summer semesters. Members receive a 10 percent discount on classes and Musikgarten. Indiana State employees are also eligible for a discount.

Please contact the CSA office at 812-237-2528 for information about financial aid.
