Sycamore Staff Award winner is ‘epitome of what this award represents'

May 15, 2013

Angie Lansing is the recipient of the 2013 Sycamore Staff Award at Indiana State University.

The university's Staff Council presents the award annually to an employee who contributes to the overall mission and success of the university. Lansing, assistant director of athletics for business operations, was selected from a field of 10 nominees representing both exempt (salaried) and non-exempt (hourly) employees.

In presenting the award during the Staff Council's annual meeting May 9, Kelly Hall, Staff Council president, noted that one person who nominated Lansing described her as the "epitome of what this award represents."

Others who nominated her cited Lansing's "uncanny ability to connect with individuals on a personal and professional level" and called her "the type of person who will help anyone with anything they need. Whether you're a student, co-worker, or just a passerby, Angie's demeanor makes you feel at ease and comfortable. She's the first person to come out of her office when someone needs help. Angie is the problem-solver of the athletics department. So many people depend on her because of her charisma and approachability."

Much of Lansing's time is spent promoting Sycamore athletic events and "it seems like she has some ISU-related function to be at every night of the week," said Katie Gaal, athletics coordinator. "Her dedication to Sycamore Athletics is unlike anyone else's. She goes not because she feels like she has to, but because she wants to support our coaches and student-athletes."

Lansing serves on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, Sycamore Hall of Fame Committee and University Athletics Committee. She chairs the Athletics Minority Opportunities and Interests Committee, is the intercollegiate athletics department's student affairs representative and serves as sport supervisor for several sports.

Other nominees for this year's Staff Council Award were Pam Barnett, administrative assistant in the controller's office; Anita Bishop, administrative assistant in the Center for Student Success; Mike Caress, veterans' services coordinator in the Office of Admissions; Julie Dininger, administrative assistant in the department of applied medicine and rehabilitation; John and Tracy Ford, information center consultant in the Office of Information Technology and video production manager in the Office of Communications and Marketing, respectively; Ernie Kramer, assistant director of purchasing and central receiving; Danny Patterson, lead refrigeration mechanic in Facilities Management; and Andrew Vincent, technical support specialist in the Office of Information Technology.
