This week's ISU Community Semester events include two presentations and a concert.

The Community Semester, which focuses on the theme "Our Town," is a way for the College of Arts and Sciences to showcase what it does best and to encourage faculty and students to share what they are learning to the community. It is also a way to bring innovative ideas in the science, humanities, liberal and creative arts to the area.

On April 24, Ronald Dunbar, ISU professor of German language and linguistics, will be giving a presentation to the Terre Haute community on the background of how the Catholic, Jewish, Lutheran, and German Reformed congregations have impacted the community. Dunbar's lecture on "German Immigration to Terre Haute" will take place at the Westminster Village, 1120 Davis Drive, from 1:30 - 3 p.m.

Arnold Rampersad, a professor at Stanford University, will present "The Life and Legacy of Jackie Robinson" on April 26 in Dede I at 7:30 p.m. This talk is co-sponsored by the departments of English and history.

The "Crossroads of America Youth Orchestra Spring Concert," has been moved from Fairbank Park Amphitheater to St. Stephens Episcopal Church at 4 p.m. April 27. This concert will have compositions evocative of rivers and the audience will be invited to return the next day to help clean up the river. This campaign is coordinated by Mayor Duke Bennett's office and is in partnership with The Year of the River.
