Indiana State University's Community School of the Arts (CSA) will host an open house from 4:30 - 6 p.m. Thursday, April 25, in the Bare-Montgomery Art Gallery, located at Fairbanks Hall, 220 N. Seventh Street.
The open house will present an opportunity to meet the teachers, learn more about summer offerings, and register for camps and classes. On display in the Bare-Montgomery Gallery will be artwork created by students participating in "Painting Landscapes: Watercolor Techniques" adult class.
The school is funded through the Unbounded Possibilities initiative. It provides hands-on arts learning experiences for children, youth, and adults in the Wabash Valley while providing Indiana State students who are majoring in the arts outstanding opportunities for experiential learning through teaching. This summer, the CSA will be offering 44 camps and classes in art, music, and theater beginning the week of June 3.
Summer art camps will be offered in the areas of ceramics and digital arts and design. A preschool art class will be offered for ages 4 and under. Theater camps will be offered for children and teens, including "June Bugs-Creative Drama for Young Performers," "Theater Rocks!," "How to Land that Starring Role," and programs in musical theater. Theater camps culminate in a staged showcase presented for family and friends.
Music camps and classes will be held in a variety of areas for young children through teens. Some of the offerings include a jazz camp, guitar camp, piano lab, a college prep music theory class, choral camp, "Rock Band 101", "Sing and Dance!" and "Acoustic String Jam Camp", as well as private music lessons.
The CSA is also offering supervised lunch activities for students taking morning and afternoon classes. During "The Creative Lunch Hour", children will eat lunch while working on an art project such as drawing, painting and collage. Students must bring a brown-bag lunch. Also offered is Yoga and The Creative Lunch Hour, where students will spend half an hour participating in yoga class with certified children's yoga instructor before joining students in the Creative Lunch Hour.
The CSA will also be offering classes for adults in watercolor and oil painting, ceramics, photography and beginning piano.
