This week for Community Semester, will hold three events ranging from panel to a walking tour of downtown Terre Haute.

The Community Semester, which focuses on the theme "Our Town," is a way for the College of Arts and Sciences to showcase what it does best and to encourage faculty and students to share what they are learning to the community. It is also a way to bring innovative ideas in the science, humanities, liberal and creative arts to the area.

At 3:30 p.m. on March 20, in Rhoads Hall there will be a discussion panel of "Dalian: Our Town in China."

Chris McGrew, director of the Office of International Programs and Services, John Conant, chair of economics, Mike Chambers, department chair of political science, Steven Stofferahn, associate professor of history, Stephen Aldrich, assistant professor of geography, and Wu Nan, cconomic student from Dalian, China, will discuss the relationship between ISU and Liaoning Normal University as well as the future between the two countries.

A reception for the "Impression of the River" exhibit is planned at 4 p.m. on March 22, in Fairbanks. This reception is for the students who will present work featuring their impressions of the Wabash River. The exhibit goes from March 18 - April 5 in Bare Montgomery Art Gallery and is in partnership with The Year of the River Celebration.

On March 23, Marilyn Bisch, ISU instructor in Latin, will lead a tour of downtown Terre Haute.

"You can read a city like you can read a book," said Bisch.

The tour will show all the historical people, places and events that have shaped Terre Haute.

"People walk by these places everyday and not actually see what it stands for," said Bisch.

The event,"City as Text: A Walking Tour of Historic Downtown Terre Haute" will take place on March 23 (Rain Date: March 30) from 10:30 a.m. - 12 p.m., participants will meet at 5th and Chestnut Street, by the fountain in front of HMSU.

"This tour will show people how Terre Haute and ISU have grown together," said Bisch. "You can learn a lot about a town from its history."
