Indiana State University has a limited number of $4,000 scholarships available for Ivy Tech Community College and Vincennes University graduates looking to pursue their four-year degree.

Students who complete their associate's degree at Ivy Tech and Vincennes can apply for the Transfer Partner Student Scholarship. The scholarship is open to Indiana residents who have earned at least 45 transferable credits with at least a 3.25 cumulative grade point average. The scholarship is renewable for one additional year.

"We have worked very well with both Ivy Tech and Vincennes, and they have been instrumental in our success," said Robert English, associate dean of the College of Technology at Indiana State. "They have helped us by giving us some outstanding students, and this is one way to entice more students who have completed a two-year degree to come and complete their four-year degree with us."

A limited number of scholarships are available. Transfer students who are admitted to Indiana State by April 1 to start classes in the fall semester will automatically be considered for the award. Additional awards may be given following the April 1 deadline depending on the number of awards still available. Students admitted after June 1 will not be considered.

The scholarships will provide additional help to students who were used to the tuition price of Ivy Tech and Vincennes, which grant two-year degrees, but may need to pay more to pursue their bachelor's degree.

"When you're accustomed to a specific amount, and you have more that you have to pay when you come to Indiana State University, it's sometimes hard to make that transition," English said. "This minimizes that sticker shock, if you will, which is important."

Indiana State has partnered with Ivy Tech and Vincennes in the past, including agreements that help facilitate graduates from the two-year schools to continue their studies for a bachelor's degree. More than 75 such formal agreements exist between Indiana State and Ivy Tech.

The collaborations help increase the number of college graduates from Indiana, many of whom want to stay in Indiana following graduation, English said.

"By articulating an agreement with Ivy Tech and Vincennes, we know that these individuals will get a bachelor's degree, and most of them will stay in the state," he added, "and that's great for the state."
