The Indiana State University theater department will host its New Play Festival Feb. 27-March 2. The department will stage three new productions during this annual showcase, themed "Intriguing Journeys." Indiana State students wrote the scripts for all of the plays, which will feature a variety of subjects including finding love and freedom amidst insanity, a road trip to the Prudhomme Cook-off and survival in a post-apocalyptic world.

Playwrights Charles Adams and Michael Bell are junior theater majors concentrating in playwriting. The directors -- Elizabeth Bumgarner, TK Poff, and Trevor Hanson-- are senior theater majors concentrating in directing.

Dreams of Love

After being traumatized by Eric, Julie finds herself controlled by the thought of him. She is sent to a psychiatric ward where her condition is worsening when she falls in love with William, the man in the room next to her -- a man she has never seen. As she falls deeper in love with William, her projection of Eric becomes more sinister. Follow Julie on her journey as she struggles to find freedom and love in the midst of insanity.

Take a highly unusual road trip with a Catholic priest and two of his childhood friends as they try to get to the "Prudhomme Cook-off," only to have encounters along the way that make this trip unforgettable...for them and for us.

Our Garden

In this powerful play, we journey with John Doe through a post-apocalyptic world, which tests his knowledge and his spirit as he tries to survive. Fate throws him together with the young and innocent Eden, their unlikely friendship threatened only by the presence of the Dreamer and his cult of Sleepers. John must make sacrifices in order to restore what has been lost for fifty years. In the end all anyone can hold onto is hope.

Performances begin at 7:30 p.m. each evening in the New Theater. Tickets are $10 for the public and free to students with an ISU ID.
