Indiana State University and Pharos Systems International have announced a partnership that will allow users on the ISU campus to securely print documents from any mobile device, including smartphones, tablets and laptops.

ISU is the first university in Indiana to implement the Pharos mobile printing solution, according to Pharos Systems officials. Students will have access to Mobile Print beginning this fall.

"This new service shows that ISU is a progressive, forward-thinking university," said Yancy Phillips, director of user services for the Office of Information Technology. "The technology experience students receive at our institution will prepare them for what they will experience once they graduate."

To print to any of the 26 Pharos-enabled printers on campus, the student can send an email with the attached document to the Mobile Print address. After swiping their ID card at the printer, the student can select which documents to immediately print. Instead of needing access to a computer lab to print documents, students will be able to print from their own mobile devices without any installation, device drivers or delay.

"Students can print from any mobile device, on or off campus, to any secure printer provided on the ISU campus," said Lisa Gawenus, Midwest client concierge at Pharos, "And it is worth mentioning they are one of the first in their state - and the nation - to offer Mobile Print technology from Pharos."

Phillips said students will find similar technologies in the workplace.

"With the advent of bring your own device (BYOD) many businesses are now implementing, it is important students are even more familiar with their devices," he said.

Phillips said the process of collaborating with Pharos representatives to deliver this cutting-edge technology has been a smooth one.

"The Pharos implementation team has been a great partner and guided us to a successful implementation," Phillips said. "Their ability to respond to any issues we had during the implementation made it a much smoother process than we could have ever anticipated. They have stayed connected to us and have been very responsive to our inquiries."

Representatives said the use of Mobile Print places Indiana State as a leader in higher education technology.

"ISU is not only offering the benefit of printing from any mobile device, but they are leaders in the future of intelligent print," Gawenus said. "In the not-too-distant future, printing will be simple, secure and infinitely flexible, and ISU is ahead of that trend."
