ISU faculty member named executive director of nursing

June 18, 2012

Lea Hall has been named executive director of nursing for Indiana State University's College of Nursing, Health, and Human Services.

An 11-year faculty member at Indiana State, Hall recently served as chair of the department of advanced practice nursing. As executive director, she will oversee all undergraduate and graduate nursing programs.

"I have been impressed with Lea's leadership of the advanced practice nursing department. She is an exemplary teacher and researcher and is keenly aware of both the strengths and challenges facing ISU's nursing programs as we continue to look for ways to help Indiana and the nation address critical health care challenges," Richard "Biff" Williams, dean of the college, said in announcing Hall's appointment.

As executive director, she is the chief administrative officer for both undergraduate and graduate nursing programs at Indiana State. She is responsible for establishing, monitoring and strengthening those programs.

"It is an honor to accept the position of executive director of nursing," she said. "I have the great privilege to work with an exceptional group of faculty and staff. Our collective goal is to strengthen the nursing programs and take them to the next level of excellence."

Hall said the college boasts unique, well-established programs to prepare the next generation of nurses and advanced practice nurses to practice in an ever-changing healthcare environment.

"I look forward to the challenges and rewards this position brings," she said.

Hall has been a faculty member at Indiana State since 2001, the same year she completed a master's degree in nursing from ISU. She started as an adjunct instructor and has since served as clinical coordinator and instructor in the family nurse practitioner concentration and as assistant professor in the nursing program while also serving as chair of the advanced practice nursing department.

In addition to her master's degree, Hall holds a Ph.D. in curriculum, instruction and media technology from Indiana State and a bachelor's degree in nursing from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She is a member of the National League for Nursing, Society of Advanced Practice Nurses, National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculty, Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society, and Who's Who in Health Science Education.
