Indiana State University's newly formed Community School of the Arts will host an open house Wednesday, May 9, from 6-8:30pm in the Landini Center for Performing and Fine Arts, located at 300 N. Seventh St.

The Community School of the Arts is one of the new programs at Indiana State funded through the Unbounded Possibilities initiative. The Community School of the Arts (CSA) provides hands-on arts learning experiences for children, youth, and adults in the Wabash Valley while providing ISU students who are majoring in the arts outstanding opportunities for experiential learning through teaching. This summer, the CSA will be offering camps and classes in art, music, and theater.

"The Community School of the Arts is an example of arts working together," said Nancy Cobb Lippens, director of the ISU School of Music. "Faculty members in music, art and theater have developed synergies which have resulted in an initial offering of diverse summer programs."

"We've taken programs we already had in place, such as the Community Music Center, and are working to expand our programming to nurture interests in all areas of the arts," Cobb Lippens added.

The open house will present an opportunity to meet the teachers, learn more about summer offerings, and register for camps and classes.

Summer art camps will be offered in the areas of clay sculpture (ages 8-13) and photography (ages 13-15). Theater camps will be offered for children and teens, including "June Bugs-Creative Drama for Young Performers," "Theater Rocks!" and "Theater Techniques for Teens." Theater camps culminate in a staged showcase presented for family and friends.

Music camps and classes will be held in a variety of areas for young children through teens. Some of the offerings include a nature trail camp, Glee camp, guitar camp, and choral camps, as well as private music lessons.

The "Family Fun Music Camp" will be held for very young children (ages 1-5) to attend with a caregiver, and includes singing, dancing, listening to music, and playing instruments while developing a strong musical bond with your child.

Enrollment for some programs is limited, so early registration is encouraged.
