The Indiana State University Foundation has selected two faculty members as the first participants in its Faculty Fellows Program.

Brian Kilp, professor of music, and Nathan Schaumleffel, assistant professor of recreation and sport management, will serve as Faculty Fellows for 2011-12. The program provides funding for travel, speaking opportunities, student support and/or experiential learning.

Faculty Fellows are educators whose efforts impact the university and the foundation's strategic growth and development, said Gene Crume, president of the ISU Foundation.

"The creation of the program continues our support for faculty and the work they do on behalf of the university," Crume said. "Faculty selected for this program are recognized in their respective academic disciplines, embody the university's mission of community engagement and experiential learning, and serve as ambassadors for the university and the foundation with our students, alumni and friends."

Kilp, who recently partnered with the foundation in announcing its first international alumni club in Thailand, was selected because of his decade-long effort to cultivate and develop international partners for Indiana State.

"I was quite surprised and pleased to hear that I had received such an honor from the ISU Foundation," he said. "This position as an ISU Foundation Faculty Fellow will enable me to have access to resources that will undoubtedly assist in furthering the internationalization of our campus through building programs that will enable our students and faculty to have more opportunities for international experiences and encounters."

Schaumleffel, campus director of the Nonprofit Leadership Alliance (formerly American Humanics), said the focus of his fellowship will be to build a stronger relationship between the alliance program, students and the foundation in preparing productive citizens through community engagement and service learning.

"This fellowship will provide unique opportunities and resources to further those relationships and will allow us to create even greater opportunities for students who are preparing for nonprofit leadership/management careers that have a focus on philanthropic fundraising, such as internships, student employment, classroom expertise, and student club fundraising opportunities," Schaumleffel said. "I am grateful for this opportunity and appreciative of the ISU Foundation staff and Dr. Crume for their continued support and collegiality."

The fellowship will also allow the Nonprofit Leadership Alliance to further develop the fundraising certificate program offered through ISU's Collegiate Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals, he said.

Faculty members interested in participating in the Faculty Fellows Program should submit to the foundation a one-page overview document describing their interest as well as a brief rationale and description of their area of support.
