Indiana State University honored its police force at their sixth biennial recognition and commendation dinner on April 28 at the Rod and Gun Club. The evening was sponsored by First Financial Bank.
Honorable Service Awards were presented to Lieutenant David Smith; Sergeants Brenda Edington, Ian Loomis, Wendell McCollough and Jacque Smith; Corporal Tamara Watts; and Officers Marcia Bahr, Mike Colson, Mike Eldred, Chris Heleine, Chris McKillop, Matt Murray, Ryan Ringo and Heather Wade. Receiving Exceptional Service Awards were Sergeants Brenda Edington, Ian Loomis and Wendell McCollough; Corporal Brian Pierce; Officers Marcia Bahr and Mike Eldred; Dispatch Coordinator Tonia Tucker; and Communications Officer Gloria Ighile.
Receiving the Police Star were Sergeant Ian Loomis; Corporal Dan Parmer; and Officers Mike Colson, Matt Murray and Ryan Ringo. The Life Saving Award was presented to Sergeants Brenda Edington and Ian Loomis; Officers Marcia Bahr, Mike Colson, Chris McKillop, Matt Murray and Ryan Ringo; and Dispatch Coordinator Tonia Tucker.
Lieutenant David Smith and Sergeant Jacque Smith received Certificates of Recognition for their contributions as instructors in the Rape Aggression defense class offered to ISU students and staff. Certificates of Excellence in Professional Development were presented to Lieutenant David Smith; Sergeants Ian Loomis and Jacque Smith, Corporals Brian Pierce and Tamara Watts; Officer Chris McKillop; Dispatch Coordinator Tonia Tucker; and Administrative Assistant Kelly Hall.
Captain Brent Denny; Lieutenant David Smith; Sergeants Brenda Edington, Ian Loomis and Jacque Smith; Corporals Brian Pierce and Tamara Watts; and Officers Mike Colson, Chris Heleine, Chris McKillop, Matt Murray, Ryan Ringo and Heather Wade were presented with certificates of recognition for their work with the National Night-Out program. The program promotes safety for individuals after dark.

A Certificate of Recognition for SobeRide was presented to Sergeant Jacque Smith and the Civilian Award was presented to Marjorie Loomis, also for SobeRide.

Participants with the Special Olympics Torch Run were presented with Certificates of Recognition. They were Lieutenant David Smith, Sergeant Jacque Smith; Corporals Brian Pierce and Tamara Watts; and Officers Mike Colson, Chris Heleine, Chris McKillop, Matt Murray, Ryan Ringo and Heather Wade.

Honored at the dinner for their years of service to the department were Captain Brent Denny, 15 years; Chief William Mercier, Assistant Chief Joseph Newport, Sergeant Brenda Edington, and Records Clerk Teresa Evans, 10 years; and Sergeant Ian Loomis, and Officer Heather Wade, five years.
The Chief of Police Award for service to the department and the University was presented to First Financial Bank, B & B Foods and Pepsi.
