Professor to serve as faculty fellow at national theater festival

April 13, 2011

Indiana State University will be represented at the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival this spring by associate professor of theater, Linda Janosko.

After helping with the ISU production "Real Girls Can't Win" in the Kennedy Center regional competition this year, Janosko looks forward to attending the national competition April 18-23, 2011 in Washington, D.C.

However, this time will be a little different.

Janosko was nominated and chosen to serve as the Region III Faculty Fellow for the festival. The faculty fellowship is a professional development opportunity as well as a chance for Janosko to be recognized for her contributions at ISU. Janosko will be able to see all of the shows that were chosen for national competition and help with scenic design sessions.

"To be chosen as faculty fellow is really an honor and was a complete surprise. I was in shock because I had no idea someone nominated me," Janosko said. "I'm looking forward to seeing productions from other regions. It's always great to see a show you had nothing to do with."

Janosko said the festival has already provided great experience not only for her, but also for the ISU theater students who have been involved. Students have performed plays, submitted dramaturgical research, and even entered makeup designs into competition.

"We have a small department so it is hard to get feedback from people who haven't had anything to do with our productions and don't know the students," Janosko said. "The KCACTF gives students the opportunity to have their work seen and also to get critical feedback."

Janosko is in charge of scenic design at ISU and also teaches courses in design and foundational studies.
