The Indiana State University community will receive a taste of comic opera, as the School of Music and the theater department host the culminating performance of the opera and music theater workshop.

Taking place at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 8 in University Hall, the 10 select singers will perform comic opera scenes from the compositions of Mozart, including "Magic Flute," "Cosi fan tutte" and "Don Giovanni."

The performance will be conductd by Mark Carlisle, and accompanied by Sharry Spicknall, both of the School of Music.

All scenes are fully costumed with assistance from the theater department, and most include elements of comedy, as displayed in the stage movement and interactions between characters. Dimensions of fantasy and farce can also be expected.

"This should be an entertaining, family-friendly event," said Colleen Davis, stage director of the workshop and faculty in the School of Music.

This performance precedes a collaboration between the School of Music and the theater department on a full-scale musical production, coming in the spring of 2012.
