Steel band and percussion ensemble to perform

November 18, 2010

The Indiana State University Steel Band and Percussion Ensemble will perform their fall concert on Sunday, Dec. 5 at 4 p.m. in Room 159 of the ISU Center for Performing and Fine Arts.

Presented in this concert will be transcriptions of classical works of Bach and Debussy along with a jazz composition by famed pianist Chic Corea. The contemporary composition, "Kaleidoscope" by Dr. Marc Wooldridge, professor of music at Indiana Wesleyan University, will also be performed.

"This is mesmerizing work that is accompanied by a unique large screen video production," said Jimmy Finnie, director of the ISU steel band and percussion ensemble.

The steel band will also play Caribbean music by the steel band and the percussion ensemble will show off their dexterity.

Continuing this year is the concerts unique tradition of welcoming young children to play percussion instruments at the end of the concert with the assistance of ISU percussion students.
