“Real Girls Can’t Win” at New Theatre Nov. 4-6, 11-13

October 27, 2010

Indiana State's latest theatre production follows the struggles of a college freshman competing in a beauty pageant.

"Real Girls Can't Win" was written by ISU visiting theatre professor Merri Biechler. The play won the Centenary Stage Company's 2009 Women Playwrights Series. Performances are scheduled Nov. 4-6 and 11-13 at 7:30 p.m. in the New Theatre.

In the comedy, college freshman Katie, who considers herself a "real girl," defends that perception against beauty queen Dakota in the race for "Miss Freshman B Dorm." Katie realizes how challenging it is to be a "real girl" in the age of the Internet and instant fame.

The play is directed by Julie Dixon, ISU associate professor of theatre.

Tickets go on sale Nov. 1. Admission is free for ISU students with university ID and $7 for the general public. Tickets can be purchased by calling 812-237-3333.
