Recycling Center’s “TV Tuesday” set for April 6

April 2, 2010

Indiana State University's Recycling Center will be accepting televisions on Tuesday, April 6.

During the center's "TV Tuesday," old televisions may be dropped off at the center from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. A fee of $5 will be charged for sets with screens of 27 inches or less and a fee of $10 for sets larger than 27 inches. The fees help defray the cost of processing TVs and transporting them to Indianapolis for de-manufacturing and recycling.

A grant from the Indiana Department of Environmental Management has allowed the Recycle Center, TREES Inc. and Indianapolis-based Workforce Inc. to accept electronic scrap, including computers and related products, on a daily basis. Collection of televisions is limited to four times per year because of the extra staffing and expense involved.

In addition to cardboard, most plastics, glass, aluminum cans and paper products, the Recycle Center accepts e-scrap, including computers and related products. For a complete listing on what may be recycled at the center, visit http://www.indstate.edu/facilities/recycle/recycleitems.htm.

The Recycle Center, at 449 N. Ninth St., is open from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 6 a.m. to noon on Saturday. The center is closed on Sunday.
