Three teachers at the Indiana State University's Early Childhood Education Center's (ECEC) Child Care program have recently received certification as Musikgarten instructors.
Marisa Vincent, Charlene Lowry and Tiffany Cherry attended training conferences in the Cincinnati and Chicago area to learn information and techniques to enrich their pre-school classrooms with music.
"The music theory I learned at Musikgarten has helped me clarify the parallel between music and reading skills," Lowry said. "It emphasizes listening skills, impulsive control, learning patterns, creative thinking and we learn to love music as well."
The ISU ECEC offered Musikgarten classes last school year at the Child Care Center and the preschool program at Franklin Elementary. Shere Viar has taught the classes in the past and will continue this school year. These classes and training were made possible by a donation from the late Martha Pearman Sharp
