Alumnus Bob Baesler of Terre Haute and student Matt Huckleby of Georgetown took their seats on the Indiana State University Board of Trustees Friday following confirmation of their appointments by Gov. Mitch Daniels.

A 1972 College of Business graduate with a degree in business administration, Baesler, owner and operator of Baesler's Market in Terre Haute, was appointed to a four-year term as ISU Alumni Association representative on the university's governing board.

Baesler is the fourth generation of his family to operate Terre Haute's oldest locally-owned grocery store. He has given back to the community by donating food to Harmony Haven, a no-kill animal shelter, supporting the Spay-Neuter League, Terre Haute Boys and Girls Club and Boy Scouts of America. He has also supported his alma mater as a Sycamore Athletic Booster and supporter of Indiana State's Alpha Tau Omega chapter.

He is on the board of directors of several organizations and businesses, including Wabash Valley Crimestoppers, Terre Haute Savings Bank and Terre Haute Chamber of Commerce. He is a past chairman of the board of the Indiana Retail Grocers Association. In 2008, he was recognized with a Distinguished Alumnus Award by the ISU Alumni Association. Baesler and his wife Julie have two sons, Nicklas and Casey.

Huckleby, a political science and economics major, will serve a two-year term as student trustee.

An Eagle Scout, Huckleby is a student senator and chairperson of College Republicans. He is a Student Leadership Consultant and Learning Community Peer Assistant. He took part in Alternative Spring Break in 2007 and is a student worker in the Center for Public Service and Community Engagement where he assists in the planning and implementation of events and programs.

In addition to Baesler and Huckleby, Gov. Daniels appointed Mike Alley of Carmel to a four-year term as an at-large trustee following Alley's eight years of service as an alumni trustee. The governor also re-appointed Ed Pease of Terre Haute to a full four-year term. Pease was appointed in 2008 to serve a vacancy created by the resignation of Trustee John Thyen of Jasper.

During the organizational meeting Friday, Trustee Ron Carpenter of Indianapolis was selected as board president for 2009-10, while Alley was named vice president following three years as president. Trustee Norm Lowery of Terre Haute was selected as the board's secretary and Randy Minas of Crown Point was named assistant secretary.
