In an effort to address regional health and human service workforce shortages, the College of Nursing, Health, and Human Services at Indiana State University will host a gathering of health and medical professionals.

The health summit will be from 8:30 a.m. until noon Tuesday, May 12 at the Landsbaum Center for Health Education, 1433 N. 6 ½ St. in Terre Haute. A networking lunch will follow from noon until 1 p.m.

The summit is designed to help the college identify new programs and give health professionals an opportunity to share experiences in locating, recruiting and retaining health care providers.

Daniel J. Bradley, ISU president, and C. Jack Maynard, provost and vice president of academic affairs, will address the importance of building the health and human services career workforce. Richard “Biff” Williams, dean of the College of Nursing, Health, and Human Services, will present an overview of the new college, established in 2007, and a few of the new programs being proposed. In addition, Terry Zollinger of Indiana University will report on the current state of medical and health care professions in Indiana.

Following the presentation, participants will be asked to share experiences and opinions about the shortage of specific types of health professionals in west central Indiana. Trained staff will facilitate the group interactions. Information from the group sessions will be used to guide decision makers at educational institutions and by health care organizations to address regional shortages.
