Campus police force honored by university and First Financial Bank

Indiana State University honored its police force at the fifth biennial Recognition and Commendation Dinner Thursday (April 28) at the Saratoga Restaurant. The evening was sponsored by First Financial Bank.

Honorable Service Awards were presented to Sergeants Brenda Edington, Wendell McCollough and Jacque Smith; Corporals Chris Gresham, Ian Loomis and Brian Pierce; Officers Marcia Bahr and Mike Eldred; Dispatch Coordinator Tonia Tucker; and Community Service Officers Ariene Gilbert and Crystal Collier.

Receiving Exceptional Service Awards were Lieutenant David Smith; Sergeant Wendell McCollough; and Corporal Brian Pierce.

Receiving the Police Star were Lieutenant David Smith; Sergeants Brenda Edington, Wendell McCollough and Robert Zink; Corporals Chris Gresham, Ian Loomis and Brian Pierce; Officers Marcia Bahr, Heather Cummings, Mike Eldred, David Glick, Matt Murray and Tamara Watts; Dispatch Coordinator Tonia Tucker, and Communications Officers Gloria Ighile, Sandra Stuck and Carey Sturgeon. The Life Saving Award was presented to Sergeant Brenda Edington; Corporal Ian Loomis; Officer David Glick and Dispatch Coordinator Tonia Tucker.

Certificates of Recognition for the 2007-2008 Adopt-a-Hall programs were presented to Sergeant Brenda Edington, Corporals Chris Gresham and Brian Pierce and Officers Marcia Bahr, Heather Cummings and Tamara Watts. The program proactively involves public safety staff in the Residence Life program by assigning them to specific residence halls.

Lieutenant David Smith and Sergeant Jacque Smith received Certificates of Recognition for their contributions as instructors in the Rape Aggression Defense class offered to ISU students and staff, and Assistant Director Lori Elkins and Captain Brent Denny received Certificates of Excellence in professional development.

Captain Brent Denny; Lieutenant David Smith; Sergeant Jacque Smith; Corporals Chris Gresham and Ian Loomis; and Officer Heather Cummings were recognized for their work with the National Night-Out program. The program promotes safety for individuals after dark.

Certificates of Recognition for their work with the 2007-2008 Junior Police Camp were presented to Captain Brent Denny; Lieutenant David Smith; Sergeant Jacque Smith; Corporal Ian Loomis; Officers Marcia Bahr, Heather Cummings, Chris Heleine, Matt Murray, Ryan Ringo and Tamara Watts; Dispatch Coordinator Tonia Tucker; and Administrative Assistant Kelly Hall.

Certificates of Recognition for the Bike Safety Program were presented to Lieutenant David Smith; Sergeant Jacque Smith; Corporal Chris Gresham; and Officer Heather Cummings.

Communications Officers Gloria Ighile and Carey Sturgeon were recognized for their participation in the Fallen Officer 5K Walk, and Corporal Chris Gresham received a Certificate of Recognition for participating in the Fallen Officer Bike Ride.

Participants with the Special Olympics Torch Run were presented with Certificates of Recognition. They were Lieutenant David Smith, Sergeants Jacque Smith and Brenda Edington; Corporal Chris Gresham and Officer Heather Cummings.

Good Conduct Awards were presented to Assistant Director Lori Elkins; Captain Brent Denny; Lieutenants Jeff Bellinger and David Smith; Sergeants Brenda Edington, Jacque Smith and Robert Zink; Corporal Ian Loomis; Officers Heather Cummings, Mike Eldred and Tamara Watts; Dispatch Coordinator Tonia Tucker; Communications Officers Candy Cook, Gloria Ighile, Sandra Stuck and Carey Sturgeon; Administrative Assistant Kelly Hall; and Records Clerk Teresa Evans.

Years of service to the department were recognized with the Meritorious Service Award. Honored at the dinner were Sergeant Robert Zink, 30 years; Sergeant Jacque Smith, 10 years; and Sergeant Wendell McCollough, five years.

First Financial Bank was presented with the Chief of Police Award for service to the department and the University.
