April 27, 2009

The English department at Indiana State University honored 12 students as this year's recipients of the Hazel Tesh Pfennig Scholarships for their academic accomplishments.

A reception was held in room A-264 of Root Hall Tuesday (April 22).

Students selected by the Pfennig Scholarship Committee include: Danielle Adams of Indianapolis; Harold Bosstick of Farmersburg; Trever Fehrenbach of Terre Haute; Thomas Hardesty of Rosedale; Katherine Hollingsworth of Paris, Ill; Caitlin A. Martin of Clinton; Sarah Minnis of Paris, Ill; Christopher Pearcy of Westfield; Kaeley Plank of Terre Haute; Carol Thomas of Shelburn; Robin Wildman of Washington; and Danek Znika of Hebron.

Recipients of the scholarship are each awarded a $2,000 scholarship to assist with their studies at ISU.

The Pfennig Scholarship is presented annually to English majors and graduate students who demonstrate exceptional academic ability with a grade point average of 3.5 or higher. It is made possible by bequest of the late Hazel Tesh Pfennig, a professor of English at Indiana State for 34 years. The scholarship was established in 1972, two years after her death.

Pfennig was a 1917 graduate of Indiana State Normal School. An avid scholar, she received a master of arts from Columbia University, a doctor of philosophy degree from New York University and did graduate work at Oxford University in England.
