TERRE HAUTE, Ind. — As the new Dean of the School of Business, it has been a truly rewarding experience getting to know the faculty, staff, and students. I have been impressed with the wonderful sense of community exhibited by those within the school. I feel very fortunate to have been chosen to serve as dean. My wife and I have been warmly welcomed to the community and are starting to feel that Terre Haute is our home. With the new academic year beginning, it is clear that there are many exciting opportunities for Indiana State University and the School of Business. We have an outstanding faculty who are sincerely interested in creating a positive learning environment for our students. They are supported by an outstanding staff who work to “put students first.” And I am impressed with the overall quality of our students who represent the business and economic future of our region and our state. The University’s focus on service learning can be evidenced throughout the business school. Students have numerous opportunities to apply classroom theory through internships, class projects that require interaction with the “real world,” and applied research projects with faculty. Our faculty are becoming increasingly engaged with those in the regional and state business community and provide a wide range of consulting services that promote economic development. The Small Business Development Center (SBDC) works to provide business planning assistance to start-up companies, as well as consulting services to existing small businesses. The Gongaware Center for Insurance Management Development, established through a private gift to the School of Business, works to meet the educational needs of the insurance and financial services industry. From my perspective, the future is bright for ISU and the School of Business. If you are a student considering a career in business, I invite you to come visit and learn more about our many programs. If you’re a parent seeking to advise your students concerning career goals, we would be happy to discuss the learning opportunities that we provide our students. If you’re an alumnus of our school or simply interested in the development of our school, please keep in touch so that we can keep you informed of the many events and activities that we are planning for this school year. -30- Contact: ISU
