Facilitator: Jackie Lower, Community Leader

Our February facilitator is community leader, Jackie Lower, who describes her leadership philosophy as “continuing to evolve with focused listening, humor, passion, inquiry, courage and imagination.” (Sounds like a servant leader)! As an employee of the school corporation for 35 years, Jackie was a teacher and a dean of students, and she currently serves in an elected role as a Vigo County School Board Trustee. She also serves on the boards of the Wabash Valley Community Foundation, the Day Nursery, and is actively involved in Community Chest, Riverscape, Education Heritage Association, Vigo County Retired Teachers Association, and the Economic Development Commission. She was part of the original planning committee and a charter member of 100+ Women Who Care. Jackie was honored with an Excellence in Education Award twice and was recently selected as one of the Wabash Valley Women of Influence.  A lifelong Hautian with a desire to give back, she is noted for changing the lives and organizations that she touches.

    Facilitator: Gary Brown,Thompson Thrift   

Join Gary Brown as he shares his experiences in becoming a servant leader. Gary has a BS in labor studies from Indiana University and began his career with Cummins Engine Company. He also worked at Ivy Tech as an apprenticeship manager and at Bemis as human resource manager. Gary is currently serving as Vice President of Human Resources at Thompson Thrift.

Join Dr. Ryan Donlan from the Bayh College of Education's Department of Educational Leadership to have a thoughtful conversation "about us," inspired by James Hunter and his book, The World's Most Powerful Leadership Principle: How to Become a Servant Leader.  Dr. Donlan invites us to complementarily discuss Hunter's good work, by using many ways of knowing and turn-of-mind consideration of the pearls of servant leadership that positively influence our personal and professional lives.
