A conference for higher education staff, faculty, and policymakers in the state and region interested in strengthening the retention, throughput experience, and graduation of students from low income, first generation, and/or diverse backgrounds.

To ensure broad participation, this conference is free.

Father Katsouros visioned and launched Arrupe in 2015, an institution affiliated with Loyola University Chicago that is one of the most forward thinking with respect to the support and achievement of low income and historically marginalized students. His workshop will focus on key factors linked to the success of students from such backgrounds and engage attendees in dialogue on how to align values, behaviors, policy, and practice.

Eileen Truax
Author and Journalist

Eileen Truax anchors the conference with a keynote centered on her acclaimed writing and reporting on Dreamers, their families and stories. Her talk will provide context to the issues of immigration and the opportunities of a college education and offer insights on supporting the success of historically marginalized students, particularly from Hispanic/Latino backgrounds. Originally from Mexico, Eileen Truax contributes regularly to both U.S. and Latin American publications and speaks about the Dreamer movement and immigration. Among her published books are Dreamers: An Immigrant Generation’s Fight for the American Dream and How Does it Feel to be Unwanted? Stories of Resistance and Resilience from Mexicans Living in the U.S.
