Members of the community begin planting in their garden plots

An Indiana State University community project is growing a sense of community while helping fight hunger.

For the past five years, Indiana State has provided land for expert and novice gardeners to plant 10 foot by 10 foot, 10 foot by 15 foot or 20 foot by 20 foot plots free of charge. In return, gardeners promise to tend to their plots, plant only annuals and refrain from using pesticides, herbicides and fungicides. Participants are encouraged to donate a portion of the produce raised to the food pantry of their choice.

Additional Information

  • Tools and garden hose will be available during scheduled hours each week.
  • The community garden is pesticide, herbicide, insecticide, and fungicides free.
  • Expert consultation will be available through volunteers.
