Connecting to file shares on the ISU File Servers from MacOS X

These instructions only work for versions of Mac OS X that are supported by the Office of Information Technology:

"Leopard" (10.5.5 through 10.5.8)
"Snow Leopard" (10.6.4 through 10.6.8)
"Lion" (10.7.3 through 10.7.5)
"Mountain Lion" (any version of 10.8).

Use the About This Mac item from the "Apple" menu to find out your current version. If you still are using an earlier version of Mac OS X, you may need to upgrade your operating system to a newer version.  For assistance contact the Technology Support Center at x2910 to get the process started. Due to a security restriction in the campus network firewalls, you can only connect to file shares on the centrally supported and maintained file servers if your computer is connected to the ISU campus network.

If you are off-campus, you can install and use the Cisco AnyConnect client on your computer. Go to for instructions on installing AnyConnect. This client authenticates you (using your University Username) so your off-campus network connection will be treated by the firewall as if you were on campus.

Connecting to your L: or H: drive network resources.

Connections are done from the Finder. Make sure the Finder is active (click on a Finder window, or its icon in the Dock, or an empty area of the desktop). From the Go menu, select the Connect to Server...

Type smb://fsdata01/emdata01 to connect to your L: drive resources.

Type smb://fsdata02/emdata02/emuser to connect to your H: drive resources.

After typing the share address, click on the Connect button. You will see a dialogue box as shown above “Connecting To Server window for a few seconds then will be prompted to enter your University Username and password as shown below.

You should see the following screen:
