Welcome to your online guide to STUDENT TECHNOLOGY RESOURCES at Indiana State University

Student Success is the #1 goal for the Office of Information Technology.

The Office of Information Technology has compiled a set of informative articles to help you transition into life at Indiana State University. This page provides links as printable PDF's (these are the same handouts available at New Student Orientation). Please check out the links to access the information that you will need to know to become a successful Sycamore.

If you will receive the Scholarship Award Laptop or iPad, please click >>here<< for pick up location, dates and times.
Obtaining a Laptop
If you do not have a laptop at this point, go here for information on our rental program or to purchase a laptop through our approved campus vendor. For the most up to date information, click >>here<<.
Software Downloads
ISU students can download some of the more popular software packages at no additional cost. The cost of the software is covered by your tuition and a special contract with Microsoft. Find the software here: downloads.indstate.edu.
OIT Student Support
The Technology Support Center (TSC) is located on the lower level of Stalker Hall. The TSC provides walk in or call in support, including assistance with Blackboard. Click >>here<< for more information.
Hardware Specifications for Bringing Your Own Laptop
ISU is a laptop institution, which means you are required to have a laptop when you begin classes. If you are planning on bringing your own laptop, there are some laptop minimum specifications needed to meet your academic requirements. Click >>here<< for more.
Student Printing
No need for a student to purchase a personal printer – we have 31 student printers on campus. There is software available at: downloads.indstate.edu to install on your laptop. Or you can print from your smartphone or tablet. And each student receives 650 black and white prints per semester to use for their academic pursuits at no additional cost.
Connecting Smartphones and Other Mobile Devices
Students can connect to the ISU wireless network, ISU-Open, with their smartphones and tablets. Once connected, you can install and access your Sycamores email or print a document to one of the 31 student printers on campus. For instructions, click >>here<<.
What Should I Do and Know Before and After Arriving on Campus?
This page gives students information about laptops, student printing, software, connecting to ISU-Open (the wireless network) and the Technology Support Center (where students can get help with computer software, printing and Instructional Tools information). Click >>here<< for more info.

For us, there are three important Keys to Student Success. OIT can assist by helping students prevent problems with their laptops.

We encourage students to physically take care of their laptops – they are a vital link between the student and their responsibilities for class assignments and communication through email.

Keep your virus protection up to date to minimize the risk of losing assignments or corrupting other data on your laptop. Symantec Virus protection software is at no additional cost for students. It is preloaded on scholarship and rental laptops and can be loaded to purchased HP or other brands of laptops. To obtain updates to the virus protection software go to indstate.edu/oit/students/viruses.php. Don’t lose a class assignment because a virus infected your computer!

Back Up Your Data! You don’t want to lose all of your school work and personal files. For help see www2.indstate.edu/oit/students/storage.php.
For help with the above Keys to Student Success, see contact information for the Technology Support Center above.
