Endpoint Encryption FAQ
Endpoint Encryption software encrypts all data on the hard drive making it unreadable until unlocked using a username and password. The data is open while the user is logged in, but after logging off the data is encrypted again. During the last decade as laptops became more prevalent on campus it quickly became apparent that data could be at risk. To protect Indiana State University and the individual that had possession of the laptop Endpoint Encryption is applied to all laptops in the University.
1. What are the benefits of encryption?
A - If your laptop is lost or stolen data cannot be accessed without the correct username and password.
2. Will the encryption process slow down my computer?
A - No, computing performance will remain the same. McAfee Endpoint Encryption was benchmarked with Lenovo and Dell, and does not increase startup times.
3. I have changed my ISU portal password and now I cannot log into the
A - It will take up to two hours for the Portal password to synchronize to
Endpoint. If your new password does not work
try using your previous password.
4. I forgot my password and can't login to my computer.
A - View the Password Self Recovery instructions here. If the Self Recovery does not work or you can’t remember your recovery questions contact the OIT Technology Support Center at 812-237-2910 and they can assist you in resetting your Endpoint password over the telephone (access to the laptop is required).
5. I have changed my Endpoint password but it keeps changing to something different.
A - Do not change your Endpoint password. When you want to change your password you must change it through the ISU
portal. The Endpoint password will synchronize only from the Portal to
6. I changed the DOMAIN settings on my computer and now I can't login.
A - Do not change any DOMAIN settings. Endpoint requires the ISU domain settings to work properly. If you have changed
your settings, call the OIT Technology Support Center at 812-237-2910 and a consultant will be sent to fix your domain settings.
7. I attempted to join a WORKGROUP and now I can't login.
A - Joining a WORKGROUP breaks the ISU domain settings which are required for
Endpoint to work properly. Removing the
workgroup and resetting the domain settings will be necessary. Call the OIT Technology Support Center at 812-237-2910 and a consultant
will be sent to fix your settings.
8. I receive an error when logging into Endpoint.
A - Contact the OIT Technology Support Center at 812-237-2910 and a trouble ticket can be
created to look into your problem further.
