Public safety presence stepped up for Special Olympics

June 3, 2016

The Indiana State University Police have asked local police agencies to assist them in increasing their presence in the area of North Third Street from Wabash Avenue north to Locust Street for the next six days.

The effort is to make local motorists aware the Indiana Special Olympics will be held on the campus of Indiana State beginning Friday, June 10, through Sunday June 12. Many events will be held on the university's new Gibson Track and Field Complex at First and Chestnut streets.

The area of Third and Chestnut streets will be particularly busy during this time as participants may choose to cross on their own as opposed to using the transportation that will be provided.

The Indiana Department of Transportation and the Terre Haute Police Department will assist with electronic signage reminding motorists of their speed.
