22 compete for the Miss ISU title

October 30, 2015

Get ready for heels, glamour and Sycamore pride. The 34th crowning of Miss Indiana State University Scholarship Program is set for 4 p.m. Sunday in Tilson Auditorium and is free to the public.

“I found out while deployed in Afghanistan and Kuwait that I wanted to compete for Miss ISU because while working with all males for 7 months for the United States Air Force, I wanted to compete to show my feminine side but at the same time have an influence on other women,” said Morgan Eckert, a sophomore chemistry major.

This year there are 22 women participating in this year’s Miss Indiana State University.

“The women vary from graduate students to freshman. We have a variety of organizations and hometowns represented this year,” said Freda Luers, co-director of the scholarship program.

The women participating this year have been practicing and having rehearsals to prepare for this upcoming Sunday.

“Since coming to ISU, I wanted to make sure I was ready because ISU means a lot to me and I wanted to give some of that back,” said Madisson Brower, a junior health administration major.

Miss ISU receives $1,500 in scholarship money. There is $3,500 in scholarship money altogether that will be split amongst scholarships for contestants competing for the Miss ISU title Luers said.

The scholarship money has been provided by the Indiana State University Foundation, Barnes and Noble, Indiana State University Credit Union and Indiana State University Panhellenic Association.

“These organizations that provide the scholarship money are all great supporters,” Luers said.

The program is a preliminary for both the Miss Indiana Scholarship Program and the Miss American Scholarship Program.

The Miss Indiana State University began in 1958.  The first and only time Miss ISU has won the Miss Indiana title was Kathleen Burke in 1961.
