Nolan Davis, associate vice president for student affairs at Indiana State University since 2010, has been named interim vice president for Student Affairs, President Daniel J. Bradley announced today.
"Nolan has been instrumental in driving several initiatives within the strategic plan related to student affairs especially the development of the co-curricular data base. His work as associate vice president for the past four years will be very beneficial in providing the continuity needed in leading the Division of Student Affairs during this leadership transition," Bradley said.
Davis' appointment will be effective July 22. Current Vice President Carmen Tillery Taylor is leaving Indiana State later this month to take a position as vice president for student services at California State, Long Beach. A national search for the vice presidency will begin later this fall with Taylor's successor expected to be in place by July 1, 2015.
As associate vice president, Davis has chaired a campus life programming council aimed at improving coordination of campus-wide efforts and has been responsible for budget tracking and assessment for Student Affairs. He also oversaw the areas of student activities and organizations and recreational sports, and has served as adviser to the Student Government Association.
"I am honored to be invited to serve the university in this new capacity. It has been a pleasure to work with the staff of the Division of Student Affairs, and I look forward to supporting them as they continue to have great achievements in serving the students of Indiana State," said Davis.
Prior to coming to Indiana State, Davis was the assistant to the vice president for student affairs at Northern Illinois University. While in that position, he served variously as primary adviser to student government and Greek life, and as an area coordinator for residential life. He also served as assistant to the president at Northern Illinois.
Davis joined Indiana State's staff in 2008 as director of student activities and organizations. He earned his bachelor's degree in political science from Western Carolina University and a master's degree in political science from Northeastern Illinois University.
